As a classically trained artist, I’ve always found joy in exploring various forms of expression, but food illustrations hold a special place in my heart. Food is so much more than sustenance—it’s a bridge to culture, a vessel for memories, and a way to share pieces of ourselves with others. It connects us, teaches us about new traditions, stirs up nostalgic moments, and shapes our identities.
One of the greatest joys of being multiracial is having a deep connection to a wide variety of cuisines. Being Filipino and Hawaiian, I have a special love for Asian food in general, but nothing warms my heart quite like the taste of adobo, a fresh malasada, or my all-time favorite—spam musubi.
I started drawing nostalgic foods back in college, and about ten years ago, I began creating playful Spam Musubi illustrations. In 2024, I decided to take those doodles to the next level and turn them into whimsical designs. Now, my Smiling Musubi characters are living their best lives—surfing, picnicking, bathing in bowls of ramen, and more. My partner and I couldn’t stop laughing as we brought these ideas to life!
These little musubi characters bring me so much happiness, and I’m thrilled to share that joy with you through tees, bags, stickers, and other fun swag.
Check out the Smiling Musubi collection today—I hope it makes you smile just as much as it does me!
